Dialectical Materialism and Science
The fundamental proposition of Science, 'A causes B', is structurally identical to 'A is a means to B'. Thus, Science entails a systematic relation between, on the one hand, Theory, Description, and Interpretation, and, on the other, Practice, Prescription, and Change. Now, the essential pattern of Dialectical Materialism, which, according to Marx, is the 'Science' that informs 'Scientific Socialism', is Conflict-Resolution. Thus, as a means to changing the world, Dialectical Materialism prescribes Conflict. However, mere Class-Conflict does not include seizing the means of production or abolishing private property. Hence, Dialectical Materialism is inadequate as a 'scientific' formula for changing Capitalism into Socialism.
