Socialism and Survival

As has been previous discussed, Trotsky proposes that the ultimate justification of Socialism is its elimination of the exploitation of humans by humans.  However, implicit in Marx's definition of humans as the animal that produces its means of sustenance, is that what justifies any human activity is its effectiveness in promoting the survival of the species, i. e. its "sustenance".  Accordingly, the only justification of not only Socialism, but of the elimination of exploitation, is that it promotes survival more effectively than any alternative.  So, not only is Trotsky's thesis inconsistent with the premises of Marxism, his neglect of the latter is entails that of the possibility that some other doctrine is more effective as a means to its implicit ends.
