Selfishness and Exploitation

An influence of Kant on Socialism is more explicit in Trotsky's version of it. For, the latter's declaration that the ultimate end of Socialism is, via the abolition of private property, the elimination of interpersonal exploitation, can be recognized as the Kantian duty to not treat others as mere means to one's ends. But, then, that ultimate end, like that Duty, entails vestigial Selfishness, since it potentially protects disassociative personal pursuits from interference. In contrast, a concept of Socialism inspired by the corresponding "Imperfect", though more demanding, Kantian Duty, i. e. to promote the well-being of others, overcomes that vestige, and constitutes a better integrated Socialism.
